Jean ETCHAMENDY - BORDDEL

NAME-FIRSTNAME : ETCHAMENDY LARRALDE, Jean
NICKNAME : BORDDEL
DATE OF BIRTH  : 7/I/1792
PLACE : VALCARLOS (Navarra)
DATE OF DEATH :  30/V/1879
PLACE : VALCARLOS (Navarra)
OCCUPATION : farmer

TYPE : spontaneous bertsus, written bertsus

BIOGRAPHY :

He married Juana Harriet and they had 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys. A very nice man, he loved bask songs and poetry. When he went working outside, he would always take some paper and a pen to write down any  thought that would occur when he was in the middle of the land for example. Most of his texts didn't reach us unfortunately but his name is always associated to those of Etxahun and Otxalde, which means he was a great bertsulari.

MOST FAMOUS BERTSUS :

  • Mendekoste bestetan, (celebration of Pentecôte),
  • Ene andregaiari, (to my promised),
  • Ene izpirituan bazen zenbait bertsu, (some bertsus I had on my mind),
  • Karlisten gerlako kantiak, (songs from the Carlist war),
  • Donostian soldado, (in the army at Donosti-San Sébastien),
    ...
