BIOGRAPHY :

Orphan at the age of 7, he first studied in the abbey of Belloc then at the higher seminary of Bayonne. He was ordained priest in 1924, and appointed teacher at the seminary of Ustaritz in 1926. He then settled down in Ustaritz. Graduated in Arts and Philosophy (1928).

In 1932 he met Aitzol, and from then on was closely related to bask nationalism. He initiated the magazine Aintzina (1934) and the newspaper Herria (1944). He lead both for numerous years. He became a member of the Bask language Academy in 1952.

The University of the Bask Country appointed him   “docteur honoris causa" in 1982.
We owe him la grammaire basque (the bask grammar book), a reference book. In addition to  grammar and lexicography, he also wrote plays, poetry, biographies and essays.

Canon Pierre Lafitte published many books in different fields.

We will mention hereafter some bertsus appeared in his book called  Ithurralderen kantuak : nere makila, nere xorteko laguneri.
