BIOGRAPHY :
Son of Manex Larre and Mari Otxobi ; the oldest among three brothers
(Emile, Jean Pierre and Albert).
He enters the small seminary of Ustaritz at the age of 11 in 1937. There
he will have Pierre Lafitte as a teacher (this last one's influence can be
perceived on Emile and a lot of his fellow learners : they will be called
"Lafitte's children"). He spent one year in Mauléon as an assistant-teacher
in 1944 ; from Mauléon he wrent to the major seminary of Bayonne up to
1952.
Ordained priest on 29-06-1951, he gives his first mass in Bayonne and the
next one in his birthplace, St Etienne de Baigorry. In 1953 he was curate in
Hasparren, teacher at the college Mayorga in St Jean Pied de Port from 1954
to 1956, curate in Urrugne from 1956 to 1962, member of the
missionnaries of Hasparren from 1962 to 1969, priest in Ayherre from 1969 to
1980. Since then, he preaches in Irissarry.
He leads the newspaper Herria from 1969 on where he has also been the
editorial writer ; member of the workshop about oral literature, he will be
appointed full member of Euskaltzaindia (the bask language Academy) in
1975.
Active sustainer of bask traditions, he is particularly attached to the
bask means of expression and to the game of pelote.
