BIOGRAPHY :

The koblakari (as they call them in Soule) or bertsulari Benat Mardo lived in the neighbourhood  “Basse ville” of Barcus in the XVIIIth century. And that's more or less all we know about him.

He was a taylor. History recalls some of his performances among which the one he composed on January 3rd in 1769 to celebrate a rich marriage.

The transcription of one of his bertsus is the very first written mark of this art and is a testimony of the importance given to the bertsularists in the bask society.
