BIOGRAPHY :

He was named priest in September 1774 at Oloron. He refuses the French Revolution and doesn't trust the Constitution ; therefore he must leave the country in 1799. At the end of the Revolution he is ordained priest in  Irissarry in 1806. In 1818 he leaves the parish to retire in  Bardos. Many of the songs he wrote can be found in the collection called Kantika zaharrak : Mundu zoro tromperiaz bethea (crazy world full of deception), Zer dire gure egunak (what are these days), Zuen heriotzea (your death) Itzulhadi (turn back) for example. Father Lafitte gathered his poetry in a book called Poèmes basques de Salvat Monho. Présentés, transcrits, traduits et annotés (Bayonne, 1972). (Bask poetry of Salvat Monho.
