BIOGRAPHY :

Married Mari Olandegi from St Pée sur Nivelle on 09/VII/1947. They had a son.
Born in Ahetze, he always knew inside his family a general atmosphere linked to bertsularism from which he learnt skillness and capacity to make his own bertsus.

With Xalbador they were the most important bertsularis of the northern Bask country in the XXth century.

When he was 17, he went to  the local fête of Sare, very famous at the time, willing to hear bertsularis singing. On that day, there could be heard a single bertsulari known as Panpale, from Louhossoa, whose real name was Larralde. He didn't have any challenger, the men he usually singed with being dead. So there he was, singing on his own, regretting that the youngsters of the time didn't have any aptitude to bertsularism, prefering going to the pub, getting drunk and keeping there, they didn't follow their fathers steps...And his friends prompted Mattin to answer, they took him beside Panpale on a table and willing or reluctant, Mattin had to perform.

In 1948 he won the championship of Urrugne, in 1952 the one of Sare and from 1960 on, in team with Xalbador, the two of them will take part in all the championships organized in Donostia-Saint Sébastien during 30 years.

In 1972 he won the prize of the best bertsulari of the year.
Mattin would spread all around him happiness and good temper any now and then.

He also published two books : Ahal dena (what's possible) in 1971 and Ene xokotik kantari (songs from my place) in 1981.
